Orthodontics
For many people, a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for choosing orthodontic care. If you feel self-conscious about the position of your teeth, treatment can improve both the way your smile looks and the way it functions.
We also want you to feel comfortable and informed throughout the process. Dr. Song will explain the available options, answer your questions, and help you understand what to expect before treatment begins.
How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances may be made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. Some are removable, while others use brackets bonded to the teeth. By applying constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, these appliances gradually move the teeth into healthier positions.
Modern orthodontics offers more choices than the full metal bands used in the past. Brackets may be metallic or clear, colored elastics can add a personal touch, and newer wires are less noticeable. Advances in materials can also help move teeth more efficiently and comfortably, making orthodontic treatment an option for children, teenagers, and adults.

Types of Braces
Traditional Metal Braces
Today’s metal braces are more comfortable than earlier designs. High-grade stainless-steel brackets and archwires guide the teeth into position, while colored elastics offer an optional way to personalize their appearance.
Self-Ligating Braces
These braces use a specialized clip instead of elastics to hold the archwire. The clip can reduce friction and pressure, and because there are no elastics to replace, fewer adjustment appointments may be needed.
Clear Ceramic Braces
Clear brackets are less noticeable than metal braces and are often chosen by older teenagers and adults. Because ceramic brackets are larger and more brittle, they require attentive oral hygiene and are commonly used on the upper front teeth.
Clear Aligners
A sequence of nearly invisible acrylic trays gradually straightens the teeth. The trays are removable for meals, brushing, and flossing, and contain no metal brackets or wires that may irritate the inside of the mouth.
Gold Braces
Gold braces work like traditional stainless-steel braces but have a gold-colored coating for a warmer, more decorative appearance. Their cost may be comparable to many clear-brace options.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are customized to fit behind the teeth, keeping them hidden when you smile. They may suit adults and people whose work or activities make a less-visible fixed appliance especially appealing.
